NEW EXHIBITION OF PAINTINGS CELEBRATES THE MUSIC OF FRANK ZAPPA

An exhibition of paintings inspired by and celebrating the music of the American composer and political satirist Frank Zappa, who died 10 years ago this year, is due to open at Bradford Gallery on 10 October and will run until 28 October 2003.

The exhibition features 22 paintings by artists Andrew Livingston and George Morris that have been inspired by songs which cover almost four decades of Zappa's work from the 1960s to the 1990s.

"We'd both been listening to the music of Frank Zappa whilst working on our last series of paintings about the entertainment industry and enjoyed the humour and satirical nature of his work, " explain Andrew and George.

"It seemed a natural progression to use Zappa's music as an inspiration for the next paintings,"

"The idea for each painting arose randomly through listening to the music. Sometimes they are literal interpretations of a specific part of a song, others reflect the whole song. Sometimes they've been musically rather than lyrically inspired. The great thing about Zappa's work is that even though some of these songs were written forty years ago they are still as relevant today "

The vibrantly coloured paintings, in oils and acrylics, depict surreal, dreamy landscapes and curious interiors populated by fantastic people and creatures.

All paintings are for sale. Zappa's music will be played during the exhibition.
