New Work by George Morris & Andrew Livingston

Arthur
Negus once said that there's a collector in all of us, whether we are
aware of it or not. For some people collecting becomes an obsession, for
others it's just a hobby.
Artists
Andrew Livingston and George Morris take a sideways look at this obsessive
world in their new exhibition, The Collectors, which opens at the
ArtsMill Gallery in Hebden Bridge on Wednesday 9 February and runs until
Sunday 20 March.
However, their collectors are a little more bizarre than usual - from
acid flashbacks to noxious gases, from little green men to fantastic creatures.
"Humour is very important to us in our work," said Andrew and George,
"and we thought it would be fun to invent collectors and collections -
this also gave us the freedom to do whatever we wanted. This work isn't
about stamp or butterfly collecting but about collections of the imagination
- surreal, bizarre and, we hope, humorous."
The
exhibition features 19 works including paintings and sculpture. All the
work is for sale.
Although
Andrew and George have been working collaboratively since 2001 this is
the first time they have worked jointly on work since 'Couch Potatoes'
produced for the 2003 Sculpture Trail at Hebden Bridge.
This
exhibition follows the success of their last exhibition in 2003 - 'Paintings
Inspired by the Music of Frank Zappa' .
ArtsMill
Gallery is open Wednesdays to Sundays, 11am to 4pm and admission is free.
